Foods you should not eat for extreme weightloss in your bodybuilding diet!

 bodybuilding dietSo now that we have talked about some of the foods you should eat as well as meal frequency, now I want to discuss what not to eat in your quest for extreme weight loss and leanness (like Frank Zane) in your bodybuilding diet.

The first thing you need to get rid of altogether are all simple carbohydrates…especially sodas and all sugary drinks!  Eliminating this one thing out of your diet will do wonders for your weight.  Sodas are loaded with sugar, and sugar raises your insulin levels which throws your metabolism out of whack!

You end up getting a temporary energy boost, then your body experiences a fast drop in energy, most often referred to as the “crash.”  Your body then stores all of the excess calories it could not burn into fat.  Therefore, if you do not eliminate the sugary drinks from your diet, it will make it much harder to lose weight and make it next to impossible to get that shredded or lean look!

The next thing you should slowly try to eat less and less of are simple carbs.  What do I mean by simple carbs?  Any processed foods that contain high amounts of sugar and starches, such as anything made with unbleached white flour like bread, cookies, crackers, etc..  The obvious high carb foods are candy and all types of sweets.  If you crave sweets, eat an apple of other fruit – but you still need to limit fruit as well since it is still sugar!

Another food that you need to wean yourself off of are cold cuts and other processed meats.  These meats are loaded with fat and high amounts of sodium regardless of what the label says.  The labels manipulate the numbers in such a way to trick the buyer into thinking he is buying low fat or fat free , when in fact the opposite is true.  So if you are used to going out to lunch and buying one of those yummy foot-long sandwiches, say good-bye to them if you want to see results!

Since we are on meats and eating out, most of your fast-food restaurants are serving you food that is very high in fat, carbs,  and sodium!  You will find very few restaurants that serve wholesome food, but there are a few good options if you have to eat out.  Most places serve salads as an option; and as long as you do not eat the dressings they serve, these will make great alternatives.  Two of my favorite fast food restaurants that serve somewhat healthy food is Chipotle and Pollo Tropical.

With Chipotle you have to be careful with the sodium, because all of their choices seem to be very high in sodium.  When I eat there, I will order a bowl with brown rice, black beans, grilled chicken, salsa, corn, and lettuce.  I always leave out the sour cream!

Pollo Tropical does offer good healthy options as well.  When I eat there, which is not that often, I will order 2 grilled chicken breasts, with brown rice and black beans, and broccoli.

One of the last things that need to be eliminated or severely limited in your diet are unhealthy fats.  These consist of butter, margarine, salad dressings, lard, and cooking oil.  If you are going to use cooking oil, try whenever possible to use extra virgin olive oil.  All of the above are mostly 100% fat, so too much of unnecessary fat in your diet can spoil your results.

As we get further into our daily routine, I will get more specific as to what I am eating and offer other alternatives.

    Hi I found this blog post very informative. Thank you for the breakdown of the different foods. Many people do not think of fruits as being loaded with sugar. They automatically think that fruit is healthy and therefore can be eaten all day. Thank you for pointing this out.
